Creative Poem

My Primary School Days by Zhou Jinquan

My days in primary school,
are days that I would never forget.
On my badge was these words:
Aflame For Truth it is

A friend of mine is quite naughty,
he put a question mark,
for an answer.
Just in the Primary School Days

I scored 5/20 for a test,
and my teacher encouraged me.
When i felt sad,
she was there for me again

Oh, the primary school days,
how I love the primary school days.
Oh, the primary school days
how I wish it happened again.

Favourite Poem/Song

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

Q1: How are the figurative language used in the poem? Give the specific word(s), explain what type of figurative language it is and why the poet chose to use this figurative language?

They are used as imagery, emphasis and personification.

Q2: Tell us why you like this poem in no less than 100 words.

I liked the poem a lot as it contains a deeper meaning than what could be understood from the first reading, as the poem depicts a scene where by the beginning of the path is good and clean while at the end of the path it is totally dirty and gives us a bad impression about it. Maybe the poet is trying to convey a message through this poem and tell us how the situation was back then. I like the suspense that this poem created and how it get the reader to guess what the poet is trying to convey.

Alice in Wonderland Movie Review

Alice in Wonderland is an good movie which provides the person who watches it to have a lot of spaces to be creative, imagine and put they themselves into the movie. The 3D effect also strengthen the effect of creating an atmosphere where the reviewer can think and imagine creatively without any obstruction. The movie and some of its scenes can sometimes really give us a lot if inspirations, but some parts of the movie is totally not based on the original story/book and those who did not read the book or the original version of it may be confused by the movie and some original things. Despite that the movie was quite amazing and thrilling(especially with the 3D effect) as a whole and theending is neither to sudden or too short.

Percy Jackson Movie and Book

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

I prefer the movie version of Percy Jackson as I feel that the movie is much more exciting than the origin book version of it.The movie contains a lot of different emotions.I think that in the movie, you may sometimes be scared you may some times be laughing.

The book dose not have such advantages as the movie. It is quite a daring attempt of the director to rewrite some of the facts about Greek gods.I think the movie is a better version not only because It contains a lot of emotions but also I am amazed by the technology used to create the special effects like Medusa,Hydra....This is one thing that the book cannot achieve. All that the book can do is to illustrate out the scene but the movie is moving pictures, that is why I prefer the movie version of Percy Jackson.

Diary Entry

2nd April 2003
Dear Diary, today I feel a great sense or remorse and guilt. I have killed Patrick!
When he came home I looked at his face. He seemed tired from a day’s work. So I decided to give him some snacks as he didn’t want to eat out. I don’t get it. Why did he refuse? I told myself, maybe he has no appetite. Nonetheless, I decided that he still had to eat something as it is not healthy for him to not eat his dinner. He told me to sit down loudly. I felt quite uneasy. I thought to myself: had I done something wrong? Then, he remained quiet for a while. I accompanied him too, and kept silent too.
Soon, he told me something that shattered my heart. He told me that he is leaving me for another woman. I was shocked at the moment. Tears almost trickled down. My feeling of uneasiness increased greatly. Why did he want to do that? Haven’t I done enough? What about our unborn child? These questions had been bottled inside me since then. I didn’t want to talk to him, or ask him any questions. I just wanted to remain quiet.
Then, he said he will pay for my expenses and give me money regularly. But can that compensate the feeling of losing someone very close with you? The unbreakable connection between him and me is priceless!
Ok, I told myself, just pretend that he hadn’t said those words. But I just simply can’t. Melancholy overwhelmed me, and everything is automatic now. I walked to the kitchen. I also felt like vomiting, and I couldn’t sense my feet touching the floor. I guess that’s a temporary lost state of mind. The next thing I knew was that I standing in the living hall, in my hands was a large lamb leg that I bought two days ago. Patrick lay on the floor motionlessly.
My heart paced at breakneck speed. I put my finger under his nose. He was dead! I killed my own husband! Although I felt a pang of sadness in myself, I decided that I couldn’t let it be like this and tell the police that I killed Patrick. Furthermore, he’s a detective! Death penalty will be implied on me. Ok, if I were had to die, no choice, because I am the murderer. But the unborn baby inside me is innocent! Will the authorities kill both me and the baby? Or will they let the baby be born before they kill m? I didn’t have the answer and I didn’t want to take the risk, because I predicted that the former has the most possible.
Thus, I thought of plan to escape. First, I practiced faking a smile. To my surprise, it came out quite naturally. So I proceeded to Sam’s grocery shop to buy something. This is to show to police that I was not at the crime scene when the murder happened, therefore having a higher chance of escaping the “role” of a murderer. I tried to talk to Sam as naturally as before. That was quite successful. After buying some potatoes from him, I went back home. During the process, I told myself to be natural. I unlocked my gate and went in. I was “shocked” to see Patrick lying on the floor motionlessly. The old love longing for him came and the shedding crocodile tears was not needed. I cried my hearts out and it was natural.
I quickly called the police, and they reached here very soon. The policemen came in and investigated. They kept asking me questions, but they treated me well. I think they understood the pain of losing one’s kin and did not want to hurt me, intentionally or accidentally, in any way. They also went to the grocer and asked them more about me when I was buying the potatoes. I caught a glimpse at their notes and it was written in fast, messy handwriting. I saw the few words: acted quite normal…very cheerful…wanted to give him a good supper…cheesecake…impossible that she…
After some people brought away Patrick, I asked the policemen to bring me the glass of whisky, to make me feel better. Then they realized the lamb leg, which is the one I killed Patrick with, in the oven, and it’s cooked (I put that lamb leg into the oven before I went to Sam). I requested them to turn off the oven and eat the meat up, accompanied by an excuse saying that Patrick would not forgive me if I didn’t treat them with decent hospitality, so that they would eat up the murder weapon. They were hungry too, so they didn’t resist the treat. From the living room, I could hear some of them gobbling up the food and talking at the same time. Their voices were sloppy with their mouths full of meat. They were still discussing about this matter, and one policeman said that he believed that the murder weapon was still in this house, because the murderer couldn’t have taken such a big and heavy stuff, that is enough to hit Patrick to his death with just one smack, away with him. Another said that it was probably right under their noses, which is the truth. I couldn’t help but gave a little giggle.
Now they have left, and in this house I’m the only one living in it. All I am feeling now is loneliness and guilt. And maybe remorse. I feel like turning in, but I can’t take myself to it. I’m very tired now, getting troubled of all these thinking. I’ll leave any decision to tomorrow.

Judge- Lamb to the slaughter

Judge

1.Mary Maloney persuaded the police to eat the lamb. Normal people would not do this unless they want to achieve something.

2.Mary was giggling in the room when the police were eating the meat. This proves that Mary was not at all sad for Patrick but she was also happy that Patrick died.

3.Mary was very calm when she sat on the chair. When someone dies and one loves him/her very much, they would cry for hours and would not calm down even 3 days later. Mary appeared to be calm down very quickly after the police came even though she loved Patrick very much.

AVATAR

Avatar

Review

I think that the movie is very exciting, especially at the last part where Jake manage to tame the "Last Shadow"where the dragon only appear five time during the song.He can actually just swoop down on the back of his former dragon and tame the "Last Shadow".I am really amazed by how imaginative the director is.I think the most exciting part of the story would be when the humans battle the people of Avatar. It is pretty impressive how the people of Avatar could defeat the humans with just simple weapons like arrows and machine guns while the humans have missiles and explosives...I have learnt that no matter how much resources we have it is still up to our determination to decide our victory.

I really wander if the producer is trying to tell us that we should save Earth and do not be so selfish as the humans in the movie and tries to keep other creatures' things just for himself and not caring for others.
